HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR FAMILY?
We are a young multi-cultural (Latino and European-American) family living in a historically black transitional neighborhood in Atlanta.
DOES FAITH PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR FAMILY? IF YES OR NO, PLEASE EXPLAIN.
Both of our families are Catholic, but we are both agnostic. We are still deciding which culturally Catholic traditions to pass on to our son, and how to guide the development of his faith.
ARE THERE ANY CHALLENGES THAT YOUR FAMILY FACES THAT YOU FEEL ARE DISTINCT FROM OTHER FAMILIES?
We are a bilingual family - my husband is from Honduras and recently moved to the states before we were married. We are struggling to ensure that our son learns both his parent's languages. We are also trying to keep and mix the Dutch, Polish, and Honduran foods and traditions that we each were raised so our son learns about his families' different backgrounds and cultures.
WHAT BRINGS GREAT JOY TO YOUR FAMILY?
We are a new family - our son is 7 months old. We really like listening to or playing music with him. My husband recently started playing the ukulele and my son loves to listen to him play. We listen to a lot of music in Spanish, hoping that our son will learn to speak both Spanish and English.
